CEGH with all-time high in Austria and Czech Republic in 2020!

  • 827 TWh were nominated in 2020 at the CEGH VTP (Virtual Trading Point), a new all-time high and an increase of 10% compared to the year before: This volume equals app. nine times the annual consumption of natural gas in the whole of Austria

  • Traded volumes at the EEX CEGH Market Austria slightly up in 2020 with 165 TWh of natural gas, even under difficult conditions

  • EEX CEGH Czech Gas Exchange Market with a new all-time high in 2020, 13 TWh are an increase of plus 36% compared to 2019


2020 saw yet another record in the history of CEGH (Central European Gas Hub): 826.6 TWh of natural gas were nominated at the CEGH-VTP, a new all-time high for Central European Gas Hub AG (CEGH).
At the EEX CEGH Gas Market in Austria 165.4 TWh were traded, the highest yearly volume ever. The EEX CEGH Czech Gas Exchange volumes increased by 36% to a new all-time high of 13 TWh.

Gottfried Steiner, CEO of CEGH: “Even in difficult general and economic circumstances, the volumes at CEGH constantly increased also in 2020 to new record volumes. Our market place has proven well as the main platform for gas trading in Central and Eastern Europe. CEGH is aware of its important role in the region and we will make every effort to further develop our platforms according to the needs of our customers and to increase liquidity and gas market liberalisation in the entire region.”


In 2020 in total, 826.6 TWh were nominated, an increase of 10% compared to 2019 and CEGH´s best result ever. The average churn rate amounted to 3.95 in 2020 (the churn rate is a measure of liquidity and indicates how often one cubic meter of natural gas is traded before it is finally transferred also physically).
March 2020 brought a new monthly “all-time high” in the history of the CEGH VTP with 83.9 TWh of natural gas nominated at the CEGH Virtual Trading Point (VTP).
By end of 2020, CEGH had 256 registered members.

EEX CEGH Gas Market Austria:

The volumes also increased in 2020, even under difficult economic conditions: with 165.4 TWh, volumes slightly increased by 1.2% compared to the previous year. June 2020 saw a new monthly all-time-high with 19.2 TWh traded volumes in Austria.

On the Spot Market 92.5 TWh were traded in 2020 in total. Volumes at the Futures Market in 2020 recorded a volume of 72.8 TWh, an increase of 18% compared to the year before and a new all-time high at the Futures Market.
The number of Exchange members in Austria increased from 119 to 128 by end of December 2020.

The CEGHIX, the daily CEGH reference price, started in 2020 with EUR 12.505.-/MWh, and reached EUR 17.039.-/MWh on the last trading day in 2020. The lowest price was on 23 May 2020 with EUR 4.481.-/MWh, the highest CEGHIX was on 19 December 2020 with 17.535.-/MWh. The average price of all CEGHIX values in 2020 was 9.99.-/MWh.

EEX CEGH Czech Gas Market:

December 2020 brought a new monthly all-time high with 2.36 TWh traded at the EEX CEGH Czech Gas market, exceeding the barrier of 2 TWh for the first time.
In 2020 in total, traded volumes at the Czech Market reached 13 TWh, an increase of 36% compared to the year before. 9 TWh were traded at the Spot Market, and at the Futures Market the volumes increased by more than 50% to 4 TWh. The number of members increased within one year from 33 to 37 companies.
